摘要: Little is known about the phenotypic consequences of global climate change, despite excellent Pleistocene fossil record many taxa. We used morphological measurements from extant and populations a marine gastropod (Acanthinucella spirata) in conjunction with mitochondrial DNA sequence variation living to determine how responded phenotypically climatic changes. Northern show little as compared southern populations, pattern consistent recent northward range expansion. These recently recolonized northern also contain shell morphologies that are absent throughout record. Thus, contrary traditional expectations evolution should occur largely within refugia, our data geographical shifts response change can lead significant evolution.
