Top manager characteristics, agglomeration economies and firm performance

摘要: The role of agglomeration economies in firm performance has been extensively studied. Existing studies, however, almost invariably focus on firm, industry or city characteristics to examine the performance-enhancing effects while overlooking attributes top executives involved shaping corporate practices. In this study, we change that by empirically examining moderating two particular manager (age and educational level) economies–firm relationship. Using a manager-firm matched panel data set, find age rather than level helps firms realize potential benefits agglomeration. This paper contributes literature stating importance individual managers.
