Recognising and supporting self in dementia: a new way to facilitate a person-centred approach to dementia care

摘要: This paper reports findings from a three-year study which integrated Kitwood's (1997) person-centred and Sabat's (2001) selfhood approaches in the design, fieldwork analysis of multi-method observational that explored social worlds 14 people with dementia continuing-care. The types interactions participants experienced everyday ward life during creative sessions were identified by observing, video-recording engaging them Dementia Care Mapping. participants' responses to such terms their well- or ill-being expressions self documented. indicate wards, staff often limited sometimes abusive ill-being, whereas sessions, generally facilitatory celebratory experiencing wellbeing. By developing approach integrating it approach, I argue recognising supporting (or not) can lead qualitatively different behaviours, consequences for dementia. There is scope incorporating this developed framework into training, has potential transform practice experiences receipt care.
