摘要: The popularity of caffeine as a psychoactive drug is due to its stimulant properties, which depend on ability reduce adenosine transmission in the brain. Adenosine A1 and A2A receptors are expressed basal ganglia, group structures involved various aspects motor control. Caffeine acts an antagonist both types receptors. Increasing evidence indicates that psychomotor effect generated by affecting particular projection neurons located striatum, main receiving area ganglia. These cells express high levels receptors, intracellular processes, including expression immediate early genes regulation dopamine- cyclic AMP-regulated 32-kDa phosphoprotein DARPP-32. present review focuses effects striatal signal transduction their involvement caffeine-mediated stimulation.
