摘要: This article gives an overview of the use NMR to determine structures peptide-based toxins, with ‘toxin’ loosely defined as a peptide that has harmful effect on any organism. We focus peptides up <100 amino acids these are particularly amenable structural analysis. Typically soluble, stable, synthetically accessible and give well-defined spectra. The coverage includes toxins produced by bacteria, plants animals, there is particular emphasis disulphide-rich peptides. An analysis Protein Data Bank (PDB) shows played important role in determining wide range provided insights into their structure–function relationships. Examples classes covered include antimicrobial peptides, defensins, cyclotides conotoxins. A number have applications drug design, selected examples described.
