Knowledge and perception of small holding farmers on supplementation and feeding sweet potato vines to goats

摘要: Goats in rural communities are often raised conditions which do not allow them to achieve their maximum performance nor express genetic potentials. For goats perform full potential, they require high nutritious feed especially the winter season when there is food shortage or during milk-producing periods. However, supplementation can be done using fresh green feeds, protein blocks vitamins expensive, hence need source for indigenous crop residues. This study assessed knowledge and perceptions of farmers on feeding sweet potato vines goats. The data were gathered by administering a total 105 structured questionnaires face-to-face interviews. results showed that majority (71.4%) aware practise some sort supplementary feeding. Most (72.4%) cultivated potatoes, used different purposes such as income generation (53.3%), consumption (27.5%) both (8%). Sweet being discarded waste burnt (32.4%), left field manure (25.7%), conserved propagation material (8.6%) randomly fed livestock (7.6%). Nevertheless, most (78.1%) rejected use livestock. In conclusion, more intervention measures required developing farmers’ perception potatoe Farmers may assisted through training workshops other forage feed.
