摘要: Endometritis constitutes a major problem in the management of broodmares; hence, diagnostic tests with high sensitivity and specificity are highly appreciated. The aim this study was to compare results from endometrial, cytologic, bacteriologic examinations obtained by newly developed, double-guarded, flushing technique versus standard tests, double-guarded swab biopsy. described flush requires use disposable uterine tube, sanitary sleeve, sterile steel speculum, 250 mL fluid bag. Endometrial biopsies, swabs, low-volume lavage samples were 34 research mares at six different time points four estrous cycles evaluated cytologically bacteriologically. biopsies first cycle (n = 34) examined for presence polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) stratum compactum spongiosum used as gold calculation specificity. In all samples, Escherichia coli most frequently isolated (lavage, 30%; swab, 21%; biopsy, 12%) followed β-hemolytic streptococci 11%; 8%; 7%). Positive cytology less likely occur when E compared growth streptococci. Isolation pathogens associated PMNs straum on histology. Using tissue specimens diagnosing endometritis, culture 0.75 0.72. conclusion, low-volume, rapid accurate method risk false-positive is considered be minimal other techniques described.
