How do orthopaedic surgeons inform their patients before knee arthroplasty surgery? A cross-sectional study

摘要: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a successful and common procedure. However, 6–28% of patients are dissatisfied postoperatively. The provision preoperative patient information, inquiring about patients’ expectations, taking psychiatric history essential parts both evaluation postoperative outcome. aim this study was to investigate how orthopaedic surgeons in Sweden inform their before surgery. A questionnaire distributed all performing TKA Sweden. Responses were received from 60 the 65 departments (92%), covering 219 approximately 311 at (70%). answers analysed with descriptive statistics. content analysis surgeons’ opinions also performed using thematic method. In terms information provision, 58% always gave written while 92% informed orally. Only 44% asked patient’s only 42% 20% dissatisfaction rate after TKA. Additionally, 24% never operated on mild indication arthrosis, took history, half or seldom consulted psychiatrist. believed impact Qualitative revealed five causes dissatisfaction, which descending frequency were: choice operate on, surgical factors, combinations insufficient patients.
