摘要: Abstract Five million ship observations have been used to obtain a description of the Pacific trade wind fields in terms empirical orthogonal functions. The covers period 1950–72 two-month intervals. major conclusions are as follows: 1) core regions winds quasi-permanent position. 2) these experience large (20–40%) interannual fluctuations strength, thus suggesting similarly changes momentum and kinetic energy system. 3) area maximum trades expands contracts at time scales. 4) ITCZ thermal equator ocean congruent on annual 5) northeast southeast seasonally out phase.
