摘要: Feeding intolerance is commonly documented in premature infants. Caffeine routinely utilized for apnea of prematurity treatment and known to reduce the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) muscle tone, but caffeine effect on newborn gastrointestinal function unknown. We hypothesized that impairs motor function. As such, we investigated drug tissue's mechanical properties rat's vivo gastric emptying rate. The effects LES, fundal antrum, as well ileal colonic force potential relaxation response, were measured adult rats. caffeine-induced (10 mg/kg i.p.) rate changes evaluated following 3 h fasting. relaxed precontracted LES (P < 0.01), reduced intestinal contraction delayed pups’ time 0.01). relaxant was independent age mediated via ryanodine receptors. administration rats at a dose comparable one therapeutically used preterm neonates Further clinical investigation possible contribution neonatal feeding warranted.
