摘要: This report focuses on implementation issues for using solar-reflective surfaces to cool urban heat islands, with specific examples Sacramento, California. Advantages of reducing energy use are: (1) they are cost-effective if albedo is increased during routine maintenance; (2) the savings coincide peak demand power; (3) there positive effects environmental quality; and (4) white materials have a long service life. Important considerations when choosing mitigating islands identified as albedo, emissivity, durability, cost, pollution appearance. There potential increasing in Sacramento by an additional 18%. Of residential roofs, we estimate that asphalt shingle modified bitumen cover largest area, built-up roofing area commercial buildings. For all these roof types, may be at time re-roofing without any cost. When repaired, coating applied significantly increase extend life root Although new following installation or older repair, it not themore » only save energy. Solar-reflective pavement change included resurfacing schedule. Cost-effective options producing light-colored include: concrete, aggregate locally available; concrete overlays; newly developed binders aggregate. Another option hot-rolled asphalt, chippings. Utilities could promote through advertisement, educational programs cost-sharing road resurfacing.« less
