摘要: Intraplate seismicity over the Indian region seems to be highly correlated with reactivated mobile belts -which, in turn, represent tectonic boundaries (TBs) or palaeoorogenic corridors - as evidenced from fact that during past 200 years most of large earthquakes (M 6) subcontinent have occurred strongly influenced by Deccan trap (DT) eruption, Reunion plume activity and rifting Cretaceous Tertiary periods. In this context, destructive Koyna Latur earthquake regions, however, seem enigmatic because being situated stable shield. The present study examines compares results some recent deep geophysical probings (including magnetotelluric, seismic sounding, teleseismic tomography, gravity magnetic surveys) both exposed parts Greater Dharwar Terrain (GDT) its northern part hidden under DT cover. This allows delineation northward extensions TBs GDT flood basaltic layer, suggests regions may also weak along which different domains (for example Western Eastern cratons, etc.) accreted. It implies even late Archaean get if subjected intense thermotectonic event (e.g. eruption). Thus like other intraplate earthquakes, those at too appear associated TBs.
