摘要: The conversion of mangrove areas into shrimp farming ponds has been indicated as the main activity responsible for reduction in area this ecosystem along northeastern coast Brazil. present study was conducted using remote sensing methods and a geographical information system with aim quantifying participation northern State Pernambuco (northeast, Brazil), where implanted last recent years. From 1973 to 2005, there about 2.052 ha mangrove, 197 ha which were converted ponds. Thus, real contribution just 9.6% total area. Other anthropogenic activities, such agriculture, urban expansion tourism, contributed greatly Pernambuco.
