摘要: (1) The mode of growth the rhizomatous grass Agropyron repens (Couch Grass) is described. plant produces new rhizomes in spring from basal lateral buds. tip each rhizome grows a horizontal direction below soil surface during and summer before erecting autumn to form primary aerial shoot. This shoot develops into mature following year. By sampling stand plants it shown that development marked by production succession leaves, internodes shoots which vary length or according well-defined pattern. Usually 7 buds at base grow out shoots. Of these, four most ones develop remainder tillers. Plants growing open communities differently secondary tillers are formed first season. Rhizome not related flower formation. (2) From experiments found that: (a) can be induced winter under warm greenhouse conditions increasing intensity illumination within range 500–2000 ft. candles. (b) No occurs natural when reduced approximately 3 per cent noon value. (c) When begin 4 weeks prematurely, then ceases Mid-July. (3) These results discussed. It concluded dependent upon being brightly illuminated initiation controlled environmental factors, while cessation among closed probably result parent becoming senescent. The problem orientation its depth adjustment will considered later paper. The work described here was carried University Sheffield, England. author indebted Professor A. R. Clapham for much invaluable advice criticism. Grateful acknowledgment made Department Scientific Industrial Research maintenance allowance this investigation possible.
