摘要: The problem of organic chemicals in drinking water has been well known since 1974-1975 when the National Organics Reconnaissance Survey (NORS) and Monitoring (NOMS) showed that contaminated by organics could be found throughout nation. Of special concern are trihalomethanes (THMs) one which, chloroform, is a suspected human carcinogen, proven to carcinogenic test animals. In addition chloroform exposure from water, inhalation air while showering may constitute an additional source exposure. Since EPA not included airborne their risk-assessment calculations, actual cancer risk population due significantly higher than estimated. It suggested major research effort directed at determination levels domestic shower environment. Effort should also made determine what variables affect magnitude if present. Once these it possible educate public about potential hazard ways eliminate or reduce it.
