摘要: This Innovative Practice Full Paper addresses the challenges of teaching data structures and algorithms to blind students using tactile media a user-centered approach. Computer Science educators have long used diagrams other visualizations assist in algorithms. As enrollments computer science rise, more diverse student body has led widespread access science, including an increase number with sight impairments that are seeking degrees. In Department at Tennessee Technological University we been actively engaging development methodologies approaches necessary facilitate creation documents suitable for helping understand effectively use common structures. Using tools generally available practitioners, applied iterative process develop standards create visual idioms capture various as expressed documents. With feedback from our visually impaired students, created several represent drawing such Microsoft Visio Braille font. These were then printed swell paper printer. Students these reported gaining increased understanding concepts previously static abstractions only read about their textbooks. Many lessons learned along way range general (i.e., how properly space words order not affect ambiguity layout diagrams) specific demonstrate movement structure medium). this paper, report on representing structures, ways which interacted gain better form, faced creating documents, learned. addition, discuss work context state art, suggest future investigations.
