摘要: Fullerene (C{sub 60}-rich) powder is tested as an additive to liquid lubricants and greases improve their friction wear characteristics. The coefficient of a 52100 steel ball sliding against hardened M50 disk are measured at the contact in presence base petroleum oil with without fullerene particles. For comparison, tests also conducted graphite MoS{sub 2} powders (5 wt%). It was found that 5 wt% addition resulted reduction width scar on from 300-380 {mu}m 120-130 {mu}m, diameter mating reduced approximately 200 60 {mu}m. observed be 20 percent lower than no additives. improvements for fullerenes comparable those Limited experiments diester grease solid demonstrate similar trends. likely duemore » formation transfer film region C{sub 60} clusters which may act tiny bearings facilitate sliding. 19 refs., 4 figs., 3 tabs.« less
