摘要: The study of heterogeneity in the biological components aquatic ecosystems has been an important part ecology for more than a century. Although many early ecologists (see review by Lussenhop, 1974) perceived especially pelagic milieu to be uniform [hence term plankton or “wanderers” its inhabitants (Ruttner, 1953)], quantitative limnologists such as Birge (1897) found habitat highly heterogeneous factors light, temperature, oxygen, and limiting nutrients. physical long known reflected spatial patterns populations.
