摘要: SUMMARY Adult individuals of two morphologically similar species, Monostroma sp, and Ulvaria oxysperma (Kutzing) Sliding co-occur in the intertidal zone Cananeia estuary (25°S, 48°W), Sao Paulo State, Brazil. At an early stage, when seedlings are between 0.1 3 mm high, species can be distinguished as they have different thallus ontogeny. In order to detect (i) possible differences their vertical horizontal distributions, (ii) temporal recruitment (iii) substrate preferences, three experiments were performed. general, sp. was more intense than that U. oxysperma. Their pattern distribution along transects similar. Recruitment both occurs mid-intertidal throughout year. There significant monthly abundance but patterns not persistent from 1 year next experiments. No marked preference detected for types substrates tested species. The frequency neither correlated with other common co-occurring organisms; only presence sediment showed a negative effect on plants, recruiting ropes. did show any correlation intensity meteorological parameters, salinity or water temperature. decreased mean maximum
