摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter examines the application of functional neuroimaging to study neural basis language processing. It discusses merits and drawbacks cognitive subtraction paradigm reviews progress in several specific areas, including verbal working memory, phonological processing, role inferior frontal gyrus semantic category-related word retrieval. The techniques permit repeated measurement physiological state normal brain a single experimental session. In case positron emission tomography (PET), these measurements are typically made about 10 minutes apart magnetic resonance imaging, can be consecutively. technique is operationalized as digital image subtraction, but its significance lies implicit assumption conceptual approach rooted psychological processing models, particularly serial models. initial PET processes used hierarchical approach, which series tasks that were conceived differ from one another by addition small number additional steps devised. task next more complex hierarchy held isolate added second task. studies, correlates indexed changes cerebral blood flow.
