摘要: India is continually faced with the problem of increasing food production to feed its teeming millions. Achieving targets a formidable challenge in backdrop declining factor productivity agriculture since 90s. The National Agricultural Policy recognizes efficient conservation and management natural resources as one essentials for higher agricultural growth. Along security, nutritional security be provided about one-fifth Indian population suffering from malnutrition problems. fertilizer response last thirty years (from 13.4 kg grain nutrient 1970 3.7 2005 irrigated areas) necessitates change fertilizer-use pattern. We need adopt balanced (including micro secondary nutrients) integrated profitability. supplies organic manures, biofertilizers, nutrients soil amendments have augmented on sound footing. To sustained adequate fertilizers, appropriate policy initiatives are required restore health industry make it vibrant sector. indigenous sources like rock phosphate (P), phosphogypsum (S) waste mica (K) exploited reduce dependence imports fertilizers. availability irrigation water going uncertain foreseeable future due growing competition other sectors slow pace development potential. focus, therefore, requires given enhancing surface ground water-use efficiencies use waters. rainfed areas covering two-third cultivated area contributing 40 percent merit special attention. interventions are, rainwater harvesting, micro-irrigation, pest management, choice suitable crops (especially hybrids maize, pulses oilseeds). amelioration 2-3 m ha salt affected lands 10 acidic should taken priority increase by -1
