摘要: Objective: To estimate gestational diabetesmellitus (GDM) prevalence and hyperglycemiain a large multi-ethnic population evaluatethe differences in glucose measures by age andethnicity.Participants Setting: All singleton birthsin Kaiser Permanente Hawaii (KPH) during1995–2003.Measurements: Ethnicity classifications frombirth certificate data were linked to KPH’selectronic medical records that included lab-oratory-screening results. GDM screening wasperformed using the 50-g, 1-hour oral glucosechallenge test (GCT) 100-g, 3-houroral tolerance (OGTT). wasascertained both National DiabetesData Group (NDDG) Carpenter andCoustan (CC88% underwent 3-hour OGTT. Age-adjusted was 4.4% (NDDG)and 6.6% (C&C). Koreans (6.2%) Filipinos(6.1%) had highest age-adjusted NDDGGDM. African Americans (1.5%), Caucasians(2.5%), Vietnamese (2.8%) lowest. Conclusions: This is first population-basedstudy report largegroup of ethnicities represented Hawaii. Wefound very diverse rates prevalenceand elevated among these groups. These findings point need for furtherresearch along several avenues, such asmaternal-child outcome per-haps ethnic-specific guidelines diag-nosis.
