摘要: Despite decades of extensive animal movement research, we still lack an integrated, process-based understanding behind the decisions that individuals make, which ultimately lead to emergence home-ranges. Here, advance toward a more holistic HR formation, by developing theoretical model integrating two key processes have been separately proposed play important roles in formation territorial animals: (i) optimising resource acquisition referencing cognitive memory (i.e., memory); and (ii) minimising competition through defensive cues territoriality). We extend two-state memory-based for non-territorial animals include multiple interact scent-mediated conspecific avoidance behaviour. investigated how interplay territoriality influenced: (1) individual home-ranges; (2) relationship between home-range size, density availability; (3) response home ranges perturbations environment removing individuals). showed both gave rise spatially distinct dynamic HRs follow negative log-linear with respect distribution (Pearsons r = -0.73, p < 0.01), congruent empirical evidence. On its own, neither process resulted similar response.
