Is Women’s Ownership of Land a Panacea in Developing Countries? Evidence from Land-Owning Farm Households in Malawi

摘要: Our analysis of a rich representative household survey for Malawi, where patrilineal and matrilineal institutions coexist, suggests that: in societies the likelihood high-value crop cultivation by increases with extent land owned males, while income generated from production decreases amount females; crops welfare. The policy implication is that facilitating female ownership assets through informal formal does not, on its own, increase welfare when appropriate complementary resources are absent.
