Socio-economic differences in suicide risk vary by sex : A population-based case-control study of 18-65 year olds in Denmark *

摘要: The objective of this paper was to investigate variations in the risk suicide by socioeconomic status/position (SES) for men and women. Data on 15,648 deaths between 18-65 year old women over period 1981-1997 were linked data SES indicators, using a nested case control design. Cox’s proportional hazard regression models fitted separately results showed that suicide, both aged 18 65 years, is strongly associated with range commonly measured indicators SES, association does vary sex even after adjusting these measures simultanousely controlling effect health status. Low economic status, as low income, unskilled blue-collar work, unspecific wage work unemployment, tends increase more prominently than women; marrital status seems have comparable influence sexes significantly higher among singlers; parenthood protective against statistically stronger living big city raise but reduce men; Foreign citizens Denmark lower compared Danish dwellers reduced mainly confined male immigrants. Our findings reflect reality distribution risk, underscore importance necessity taking sex, various proxies factors into consideration mutually simutanously better understanding association.
