Clinical and psychoeducational profile of children with specific learning disability and co-occurring attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

摘要: Background: Almost 10% of school-going children have specific learning disability (SpLD) in the form dyslexia, dysgraphia and/ or dyscalculia. Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) occurs as a comorbidity about 20% these children. Aims : To document clinical profile and academic history with SpLD co-occurring ADHD. Settings Design: Prospective observational study conducted our clinic. Materials Methods: From August to November 2004, 50 consecutively diagnosed (34 boys, 16 girls) were included study. was on basis psychoeducational testing. Diagnosis ADHD made by DSM-IV-revised criteria. Detailed physical neurological examination findings noted. Statistical Analysis Chi-square test unpaired student's t-test applied wherever applicable. Results: The mean age 11.4 years (±SD 2.5, range 7-17.1). Fifteen (30%) had significant perinatal history, 12 (24%) delayed walking, 11 (22%) talking, 5 (10%) microcephaly, 27 (54%) displayed soft signs 10 (20%) primary nocturnal enuresis. There no differentiating features between two gender groups. Their problems difficulties writing (96%), inattentiveness mathematics (74%), (68%) reading (60%). All poor school performance, 15 already experienced class retention 20 (40%) developed aggressive withdrawn behavior. Conclusion: Children need be identified at an early prevent performance behavioral problems.
