摘要: Mesaoria plain is mainly used for agricultural purposes and contains 50 % of the barley fields in Northern Cyprus. The construction a highway from Nicosia to Famagusta that passes through has resulted an increasing number vehicles 1997 2006, majority which run on leaded gasoline. Barley cultivated large scale along Nicosia-Famagusta highway, was tested as possible biomonitor heavy metals. During vegetative period, samples plants soil were collected at 4 distances (0, 50, 100 500 m) sites, January April 2006. highest concentrations Pb ++ (2.82 µg g -1 ), Cd (1.52 Cr (2.86 Zn (51.8 ) Cu (19.8 recorded beneath lowest m (0.54 above-ground parts barley, (0.85 soil, (7.2 plant roots. A positive relationship found between metal concentrations. According EU Directive 86/278/EEC protection environment and, particular, are below threshold, limits above threshold.
