摘要: Summary An emerging common physiological feature of plant sap-feeding insects is the presence bacterial endosymbionts capable providing essential nutrients to their host. These microbial partners are inviable outside specialized host tissues, and therefore a cultivation-independent approach, namely high-throughput next-generation genome sequencing, can be used characterize gene content metabolic potential. To this end, we sequenced first complete obligate endosymbiont, Candidatus ‘Uzinura diaspidicola’, armoured scale insects. At 263 431 bp, Uzinura has an extremely reduced that composed largely genes encoding enzymes involved in translation amino acid biosynthesis. The tiny size parallels observed some other insect endosymbionts. Despite extreme reduction, absence known partner symbiont suggests alone supply sufficient its
