摘要: Baja California represents the northernmost reproductive area for Lepidochelys olivacea. This region is characterized by its high temperature and low humidity. Thus, nest site selection plays an important role in success. To evaluate factors affecting oviposition Las Barracas Beach, located south of peninsula, was visited, from August to November 2000, weekly periods. A density 2.55 nests ha−1 estimated a total 55 counted. hatching success 73.7% observed, with 23.7% mortality 2.5% eggs without apparent development (eggs counted=4,031). On day oviposition, relative surface humidity (between 0.75% 1.75%) (32°C) preferred females construction determined at site, as well mean distance between tide line that (17.65 m). Hatching affected distance. In addition, higher 10 30 m above measured on (surface ca. 1%). 874 hatchlings were measured, average 42.1 mm straight carapace length. Larger sizes found October smaller ones November. Generally speaking, here larger than those obtained other areas. probably due two factors: (1) kept situ, whereas areas are sometimes incubated artificially (2) nesting population southern different eastern Pacific population.
