摘要: The garden dormouse Eliomys quercinus, a native European rodent species, suffered significant contraction in its geographical range the last few decades. species has disappeared from large parts of central and eastern Europe is considered extinct some countries. I reviewed information available on occurrence distribution 26 countries where it was previously reported. Present past introductions outside were also summarised. The Lithuania, Finland, Slovakia, probably Belarus, present with single populations Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia; however, monitoring necessary to verify recent records. rare localised Austria, Ukraine, Romania, Croatia regression Germany, Flanders (Belgium), Czech Republic, Latvia, Estonia. In 2015, occupied 49% 1978 67% 2008 range. South-western stronghold species; still common Portugal, Spain, France, Italy. However, there are indications that these countries, locally declining. Present knowledge cannot explain extensive dormouse's Europe. Probably, result interaction different factors, acting at scale, related specific ecological requirements species. There strong need for research determine reasons dramatic population dormouse. Meanwhile, important monitor this identify appropriate conservation measures.
