摘要: In this paper we answer the question in title with a negative, not yet, past or at current levels of management. We provide evidence that efforts to save Hawaiian goose (Branta sandvicensis), commonly known as nene, have effectively prolonged extinction process, but potent limiting factors its environment are still active and inhibiting recovery. As early 1864, naturalists warned nene was on brink (Baldwin, 1945) but, through intensive rearing release programmes some 500 currently living wild three larger islands, Hawaii, Maui Kauai (Black et al. 1991). When restocking began 1960, fewer than 30 remained only island Hawaii. 1962, first set released and, 1982, hurricane liberated 12 captive from private collection Kauai.
