摘要: Abstract To determine demographics, practice patterns, and work volume of North American thoracic surgeons, we sent a detailed survey to all members The Association for Thoracic Surgery Society Surgeons between January May 1993 data 1992; 3049 3487 (87%) surgeons responded 2677 (88%) were in active practice. Ninety-seven percent male 3% female, with mean age 52 years. Sixty-five considered fee-for-service as their primary compensation mode. Only 24% do isolated subspecialty work: 2% pediatric cardiac surgery, 10% general 12% adult surgery. Seventy-six respondents both operations. Workload cardiac, thoracic, peripheral vascular, pacemaker operations requested. Volume cross-correlated age, 10 geographic regions including Canada, type practice, cross-checked by hospital discharge 1992. These compared from similar surveys performed 1976, 1980, 1985, under the auspices same two societies; these latter used diplomates Board database. Workloads have increased over previous surveys.
