摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter presents a new group of icosahedral quasicrystals. Quasicrystal is solid exhibiting Bragg reflections with no periodicity in its atomic arrangement. The physical properties—namely electronic, magnetic, and mechanical properties quasicrystal have been investigated, the following discovered—the presence pseudo-gap at Fermi level; large electrical resistivity negative temperature coefficient; thermoelectric power; positive dependence Pauli paramagnetism; short-range magnetic ordering satisfying symmetry; excess specific heat high beyond Dulong–Petit law; phason hopping; low friction coefficient. progress based on discoveries stable quasicrystals nice structural quality such as A1–Pd–Mn Zn–Mg–R. discovery has changed old common understanding various aspects—namely, metallurgy, chemistry, physics. Most surprising feature variety an alloy. Besides A1- Zn-based quasicrystals, Cu, Ag, Cd-based are now known. largest alloys. flexibility formation conditions allows “tuning” along properties. It certainly starting point to field research.
