摘要: Bipolar disorder (BPD) is a serious psychiatric condition that causes shifts in mood, energy levels, and the ability to complete daily activities. An estimated 1% of United States’ population affected with BPD. In individuals, BPD can cause relationship problems, poor performance at work/school, substance abuse, suicide. For these reasons, associated significant amount morbidity substantial public health concern. Studies indicate multifactorial although several candidate genes have been suggested, no single gene has successfully identified. Recurrence risk for unaffected individuals one first-degree relative 5-30%. Research identify predisposing ongoing. It likely genetic counseling testing will become routine future. This study designed analyze knowledge, attitudes, opinions regarding order capture those most seek BPD, target populations were relatives The significance understanding attitudes may help reduce burden disease. Participants consented took anonymous surveys over telephone. They answered multiple choice knowledge questions rated their level agreement statements, based on Health Belief Model (HBM), about bipolar testing. By rating 5-point Likert scale, beliefs categories perceived severity, susceptibility, benefits, barriers analyzed. Participants then participated an educational session identical survey. Results significantly increased following session. primary did not differ pre-educational HBM categories, however post-educational severity. Neither differed among themselves pre- When individual statements analyzed, more moderate concerns having child
