摘要: Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) is included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) as a condition warranting further study. Although potential advantages disadvantages regarding this prospect have been documented, no study has examined perspectives those who self-injure. The goal current was to give voice these views. Seventy-six participants with an NSSI history completed quantitative qualitative measures assessing about being DSM disorder. Findings revealed mixed views overall. Thematic analysis open-ended responses highlighted several unique (i.e., enhanced understanding NSSI, validation experience, facilitation treatment, encouragement help-seeking, reduction stigma) exacerbation stigma, diminishment underlying concerns). These findings speak need consider perceptions lived experience; future directions implications are discussed.
