Working Mothers and Nannies: Commercialization of Childcare and Modifications in the Gender Contract (A Sociological Essay)

摘要: T he commercialization of domestic care, in particular paid care for small children , strengthens the informal employment market Russia. To study emergence and expansion strongly gender-marked sector work, i n-depth interviews were conducted with 11 nannies 41 employers from 2004 to 2006 St. Petersburg . The author differentiates between two models childcare that are currently demand: more “patriarchal” (traditional) type babysitters. Part paper is devoted problem building up a relation trust nanny parents (usually mother). nature their contract, centered around well-being child, conceals fact this form work actually contributes deepening social inequality. also explores consequences changes gender contract “working mother” changing role grandmother contemporary Russian society.
