Happiness, Sadness, and Hope for the Future in Narratives of Palestinian Refugee Children

摘要: Hope, as the measurable factor of how a young person perceives future and their ability to be successful within cultural context over time, is associated with variety positive outcomes including increased perceptions happiness, academic achievement, even lower risk death. However, for children embedded in long-lasting geo-political conflicts that affect negatively individuals, families, communities, which they have no resolution or progress, hope an illusive concept. The purpose current study was test self-reported measures sadness, narratives internally displaced Palestinian refugee youth across West Bank. sample consisted 30 aged 14–16 years; were selected from 5 (IDP) camps (Balata, Askar, Ein Beit al-ma’, Nur Shams, Jenin) Bank Palestine. Results demonstrated factors related youth-perceived happiness belief freedom peace future, interactions activities other youth, summer winter camps, material emotional rewards receive caretakers (parents teachers). also showed contributing sadness occupation homeland, negative school conditions such overcrowding lack resources, living as, specific incidents loss traumatic experiences. indicated based on stated desires continue education, live peace, return get married family. This work supports ongoing inability gather strengthening families communities maintain better via pro-social behaviors establishment homes lands.
