摘要: A new multifrequency (4-25 MHz) HF radar was installed at the Long Marine Laboratory (University of California Santa Cruz) on north coast Monterey Bay CA in July, 1996. This is capable observing near-surface currents varying depths top two meters ocean. Observations were made over a three week period March, 1997 during which there strong land-sea breeze circulation Bay. Radial current measurements corresponding to about 0.3, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.4 m this using data from four operating frequencies, 21.8, 13.4, 6.8 4.8 MHz. Fourier analysis these shows that very near surface strongest periodic component diurnal one diurnally stress breeze. At deeper decreases strength, but remains dominant. semi-diurnal component, tidally driven current, grows strength with increasing depth measurement. Thus, combined buoys moorings are able investigate upper layer coastal ocean where wind struggle for dominance. Installation calibration second Moss Landing Laboratory, south Cruz along coast, progress allow measurement vector radial observations sites.
