摘要: 4476 Podoplanin is a mucin-like glycoprotein that important in lymphangiogenesis. Recent studies have shown podoplanin may be also expressed certain tumor cells, including squamous cell carcinomas. We first determined the expression of 35 patients with HNSCC 16 oral tumors and 19 hypopharyngeal by immunohistochemical analysis, evaluated association between status patients’ clinical pathologic characteristics. was not normal epithelial cells but detected some hyperplastic dysplastic lesions. High found 20 test cases (57%) associated lymph node metastasis. further validated findings an independent set 33 tongue cancer assessed survival. Twenty-three validation (70%) high-levels podoplanin. Patients whose had statistically significantly higher rate metastasis ( P = 0.002) shorter survival durations 0.04 0.03 for overall cancer-specific survival, respectively) than did those low expression. Our data suggest involved tumorigenesis useful as marker to predict outcome HNSCC. (Supported part National Cancer Institute grants CA106451 CA16672; Department Defense grant W81XWH-05-2-0027)
