摘要: Government-led regeneration schemes and policies encouraging the use of brownfield land present a challenge, particularly in coalfield areas. Coalfields have typically experienced multiple phases development can be susceptible to suite problematic ground conditions that may rooted near-surface geology or result from anthropogenic activity. Such problems, related nature void backfill, undermined unstable presence contaminated near-surface, deter investment very areas earmarked for redevelopment. An understanding previous developments within coalfields is required identify potential geological hazards, so proposals include measures address these issues. Public records landfill site investigations, minerals exploration including opencast mine plans reveal distribution, thickness high-level descriptions fill materials, although coverage data precludes comprehensive analysis entire cities. The best way show spatial distribution materials currently as two dimensional national/regional scale dataset. Depending on points, however, 3D modelling possible, which much more detailed accurate. Focusing heavily urbanised county West Yorkshire northern England, assessment coal mining landscape benefits quantifying impact are discussed. We demonstrate how certain types publicly available allow greater interaction between human activity natural superficial bedrock geology. If successful, this approach help lessen delays increased financial costs caused by unforeseen conditions.
