摘要: Abstract Background People with chronic pain may exhibit pro-nociceptive phenotypes characterised partly by reduced conditioned modulation (CPM). Characterising variability in CPM people low back (CLBP) inform management. Objectives To investigate pro/anti-nociceptive effects of a protocol age/sex-matched healthy controls (HCs) and CLBP. Design Case-controlled trial (64 participants/group). Method The involved: test stimulus (TS) (noxious pressure applied algometer to lumbar region); conditioning (CS) heat thermode dorsal hand). recruitment was measured the change intensity (rated on numeric rating scale (NRS)) TS presence absence CS. Results Responses this were variable for both groups measures consistent either inhibitory or facilitatory effects. A significantly greater proportion responses seen CLBP cohort compared HCs (73% versus 31%). In response CS, participants demonstrated mean increase NRS scores (mean 1.3 points; p = 0.35) between-group difference significant 1.4 Conclusion elicited varying higher demonstrating suggests phenotype characterise cohort.
