Functional outcome, quality of life, and ‘failures’ following pull-through surgery for hirschsprung's disease: A review of practice at a single-center

摘要: Abstract Aims The purpose of this study was to assess bowel function and quality life (QoL) in patients with Hirschsprung's disease (HD) identify who have ‘failed’ treatment. Methods A review a single-center HD cohort treated pull-through surgery from 2004 2017 completed. Bowel five years above QoL all were assessed using validated questionnaires. Patients treatment defined as one or more of: a) long-term stoma, b) needing an antegrade continence enema transanal irrigation, c) severe soiling, d) constipation. Statistical analysis performed P  Results Seventy-one presented within the period. Mean follow-up 5.4 years [0.7–13.3]. Of 38 eligible patients, 24 (nine had lost follow-up). mean incontinence score 17 [0–28)], constipation [5–25]. Incontinence scores worse than healthy controls (P  Conclusions children, which does not improve age. is comparable controls. significant proportion poor outcomes Level evidence III.
