摘要: Abstract Major intrinsic protein (MIP, also called MP26) is the predominant fiber cell membrane of ocular lens. MIP has been suggested to play a role in cell-cell communication Its expression tissue-specific and developmentally regulated. We have isolated characterized human gene encoding report here its genomic structure entire nucleotide sequence. The 3.6 kb, contains four exons separated by introns ranging size from 0.4 1.6 present single copy per haploid genome. Primer extension lens RNA indicates that transcription initiates site 26 nt downstream TATA box. Three complete Alu repetitive elements are found tandem 5′-flanking region gene, sequence third intron. interspecies comparisons coding homologies other members putative transmembrane channel superfamily discussed.
