摘要: Abstract Both the single vortex and dipole are commonly known as coherent flow structures emerging in quasi-geostrophic or two-dimensional turbulence. In present paper evidence is presented that - addition to these tripolar an equally fundamental structure. Laboratory experiments described which stable tripoles observed result from unstable cyclonic vortices a homogeneous rotating fluid. The field associated with laboratory tripole has been analysed some preliminary results concerning relationship between vorticity streamfunction presented. A simplifying model of three aligned point discussed, it appears reproduce very well essential features laboratory. Additional anticyclonic barotropic splits up into two structures.
