Hydrodynamic modes and light scattering near the convective instability

摘要: An analysis is presented of the behavior hydrodynamic modes in a horizontal fluid layer subject to downward-directed temperature gradient which, when reaching critical value, drives system into convective instability. It found that combination this thermal constraint and gravity gives rise coupling between heat-diffusion mode transverse (curl curl v→)z, with v→, velocity field, z axis pointing vertical direction. As result coupling, which absent at equilibrium, damping factor one coupled goes zero increases its value. On basis analysis, spectral distribution light scattered by nonequilibrium then computed. The main features light-scattering spectrum consist appearance an additional central component respective narrowing broadening components corresponding as instability point approached. © 1974 American Physical Society.
