[Catatonia in clinical reality: underdiagnosed and forgotten]

摘要: Background Catatonia is still a poorly understood, quite common, but often overlooked clinical picture. Consequences for patients are inadequate treatment, prolonged hospital stays and more serious complications. Method In this overview, the causes an underdiagnosis presented measures their prevention named, help differential diagnostic classification of catatonia offered treatment briefly explained. Results conclusions primarily associated with schizophrenia, also observed in other diseases such as neuroleptic malignant syndrome (MNS), encephalitis systemic diseases. Underdiagnosis can be avoided by simple thorough physical examination, observance verbal non-verbal signs catatonia, psychiatric consultations general hospitals. For acute high-dose administration benzodiazepines electroconvulsive therapy recommended.
