Agonistic behavior and ability to dominate were compared among juveniles from a hatchery stock of Chi- nook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) that has experienced five generations culture, derived the wild founding but produced parents cultured in same environment as stock, second-generation hybrids between two lines. Equal numbers parr (18) equal fami- lies (5) each fish line (3) tested, all lines raised similar environment. During 20 min observation replicate artificial stream tanks, hatchery-derived made significantly greater charges, displays, nips than wild-derived fish. Hybrids also fewer displays No difference was detected win dyadic dominance contests. These results suggest differences are ge- netic origin consistent with divergence stock.
