摘要: Publisher Summary The word “risk” has several clearly distinguishable meanings, in both technology and other social areas. Risk is ubiquitous technology, safety been a central concern of engineering as long there have engineers. In codes ethics, the engineer's responsibility for workers public strongly emphasized. Technological risk an area which terminology far from well established. definition key terms often differs between different branches traditions engineering. These differences depend largely on lack communication expert communities, but also normative or ideological element terminological confusion. Different uses “safety” can express priorities concerning what hazards should be subject to preventive mitigating measures. identification with expectation value requires that severity outcomes measured numerical terms. Ideally, such measure refer over-all utility, case analysis becomes branch expected utility theory. risk-benefit analysis, monetary values are used proxies utilities. many applications, number deaths used, somewhat simplistically, outcomes.
