Prevalence and treatment outcome of vulvovaginal candidiasis in pregnancy in a rural community in Enugu State, Nigeria

摘要: Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is a common condition, and an estimated 75 % of all women experience infection with candida yeast during their lifetime. The study involved 901 pregnant presenting to rural hospital for ante-natal care within period ten months. Those abnormal vaginal discharge or pruritus were screened VVC. symptomatic diagnosis VVC recruited the cohort after appropriate counseling obtaining informed consent. Culture high swab (HVS) urinalysis performed. Treatment significant cases use nystatin clotrimazole inserts. A total four treatment groups (n = 157) employed. Groups 1 2 received differently daily normal doses agents 7 days respectively. 3 4 twice dosing both days. In each case, response re-culture HVS repeated treatment. Pharmacoeconomics two drugs was evaluated months prevalence finally deduced. result showed that had non-complicated outcome generally same which invariably efficacy. first groups, 72 those treated once symptoms resolved one week achieved symptom resolution period. Some 96 97 repeat culture negative cultures pharmacoeconomics reveal remarkable difference in (once dosing) costs ninety-one naira (N91. 00) less than $1 duration hundred sixtyeight (N168.00) $1.5.
