摘要: This article examines the experience of social interaction in Toronto's Don Mount Court community, first socially mixed public-housing redevelopment site Canada. Similar to American HOPE VI program, involved demolition and mixed-income reconstruction community include both public housing new market condominiums with a neo-traditional redesign. Based on participant observation, this describes four struggles that emerged over course series governance meetings intended promote inclusion. These related (1) unequal power relations shaping local priorities; (2) brand define its aesthetic characteristics; (3) use space; (4) modes surveillance exclusion. The findings challenge myth 'benevolent' middle class will their political influence capital benefit low-income neighbors neighbourhoods. Instead, research found tenants were often receiving end antagonism. It is argued policymakers intent ameliorating problems residence disadvantaged communities should focus funding for programs transformative change, rather than state-driven gentrification via redevelopment.
